JAMALPUR, July 4, 2024 (BSS) – As the river Jamuna swelled up at least eleven unions in two upazilas of the district were affected by the flash flood today.
Water Development Board sources said during the last 24 hours water level in the river Jamuna rose by 56 cm and was flowing 62 cm above the red mark at Bahadurabad ghat point till this morning.
With the rising of water level low laying areas in five unions in Dewanganj and six unions in Islampur upazila have been inundated.
Dewanganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer, Sheikh Zahid Hassan Prince said low laying areas in Chukaibari, Chikajani, Bahadurabad, Char Amkhawa and Hatibhanga union were inundated. He said 17 families of a cluster village were shifted in a flood shelter. Dried food was disbursed among the flood affected families, he added.
Islampur Upazila Nirbahi Officer, Md Sirazul Islam said flood water entered in low laying areas in Patharshi, Kulkandi, Belgachha, Chinaduli, Sapdhari and Noarpara union. He said no one was affected by the flood. He said flood shelter cum educational institutes have been kept ready if it turns danger. He said sufficient preparations have been taken to face any eventualities.
