CHAPAINAWABGANJ, July 4, 2024 (BSS)- Two separate courts here on Wednesday afternoon sentenced four persons to life-term imprisonment in rape and murder and arms cases.
The convicted persons were Zakkar, son of late Gamjad, Munsur Ali, son of late Miaruddin of the same village, Md Mofidul Islam alias Sohirul, son of Abdul Karim of Mushribhuja village all under Bholahat upazila and Afjal Hossain, son of Zobdul Mondol of Birahimpur village under Shibganj upazila in Chapainawabganj district.
According to the prosecution story, Semali Khatun alias Kanduni, 45, daughter of late Entaj Ali of Ghaibari village under Bholahat upazila in Chapainawabganj district went to Rangamaitta Beel for cutting grass on August 17, 2020 at around 11 am but did not return.
Next day police of Bholahat thana recovered her body from a paddy field in the Rangamaitta Beel.
On August 18, 2020 her daughter Sharaboni Begum filed a murder case with Bholahat police station against unnamed persons.
Investigating officer of the case Inspector Anwar Hossain of Bholahat thana submitted charge sheet to the court accusing Zakkar, Mofidul and Munsur on December 31, 2020.
After a long hearing as the charges of rape and murder were proved, Chapainawabganj Senior District and Session Judge and also the Judge of Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Naresh Chandra Sarker, in presence of the convicts, sentenced the trio to life-term imprisonment and fined them of different amount of money under different sections.
On the other hand, according to the prosecution story, police of Shibganj thana on a tip off conducted a raid in Mordana Bridge area under Shibganj upazila of the district on July 15, 2020 and arrested Afjal Hossain with a pistol, a magazine and two bullets.
On the same day Sub-inspector Ataur Hossain of Shibganj thana filed a case against him.
Investigating officer of the case Sub-inspector Abdul Barik submitted charge sheet to the court accusing Afjal Hossain on July 30, 2020.
After hearing the witnesses Senior Session Judge and also the Judge of the Special Tribunal -1 Md Adeeb Ali awarded life-term and seven years imprisonment to Afjal in two separate sections.
