RANGPUR, June 28, 2021 (BSS) - One-hundred and 44 more people were diagnosed with Covid-19 positive today in Rangpur division where the positivity rate continues rising speedily in recent weeks.
Health officials said the 144 new cases were reported after diagnosing 376 samples at the two Covid-19 Laboratories in the division at the positivity rate of 38.30 percent today.
Earlier, the daily positivity rates were 37.03 percent on Saturday, 27.01 percent on Friday, 41.74 percent on Thursday, 37.85 percent on Wednesday and 35.95 percent on Tuesday last in the division.
"With continuous rise in the positivity rate, the Covid-19 situation deteriorated in Rangpur division in recent weeks," Focal Person of Covid-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS tonight.
Among the 144 new patients diagnosed today, 43 were reported positive after diagnosing 188 samples at the Covid-19 Laboratory at Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) in Rangpur city.
"The 43 new patients include 25 from Rangpur, three from Kurigram, eight from Gaibandha and seven from Lalmonirhat districts," Principal of RpMC Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu told BSS at 9 pm.
On the other hand, 101 other new infected patients were reported after diagnosing 188 samples at the Covid-19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College (MARMC) in Dinajpur today.
"The 101 newly infected Covid-19 patients include 99 from Dinajpur and two from Thakurgaon districts," said Principal of MARMC Professor Dr. Syed Nazir Hossain.
Talking to BSS, Acting Divisional Director (Health) Dr Abu Md Zakirul Islam the number of Covid-19 patients climbed to 25,184 as 144 new positive cases were reported today from across the division.
"The district-wise break up of total 25,184 patients stands at 5,837 in Rangpur, 1,015 in Panchagarh, 1,798 in Nilphamari, 1,408 in Lalmonirhat, 1,700 in Kurigram, 3, 086 in Thakurgaon, 8,287 in Dinajpur and 2,053 in Gaibandha of the division," he said.
