JAMALPUR, July 17, 2024 (BSS) - To increase fish production, two Beel nurseries were set up at a cost of Tk 80 thousand in Jamalpur Sadar Upazila this year.
 
Jamalpur Sadar Upazila Fisheries Office sources said beneficiaries of the Beel area will get at least 180 tonnes fish from the two Beel nurseries.
 
According to the sources, one Beel nursery was set up in Gabtoli Beel in Shahbazpur Union while the other in Dobail Beel in Itail Union in Jamalpur Sadar Upazila.   
 
Assistant Fisheries Officer Shorifa Aktar said two kilograms post larva of carp variety fish were released in a pond adjacent to a Beel in May this year.  
 
She said after nursing for two months in the pond, the fish will spread throughout the Beel by overflowing its bank during rainy season. After being big in size, the fish will be caught by the beneficiaries.
 
She said local fishermen and poor people adjacent to the Beel monitor the fish cultivation.
