CHATTOGRAM, July 17, 2024 (BSS)- The Holy Ashura, commemorating the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hossain Ibn Ali (RA), the grandson of Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), was observed in Chattogram and its adjacent areas on Wednesday.
 
   Today is the 10th day of the month of Muharram in the Hijri calendar 1446. This day is well-known as the "Holy Ashur
 
  Hazrat Imam Hossain (RA), the grandson of Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH), along with his family members and followers died by the soldiers of Yazid at the battle of Karbala on the bank of Euphrates in Iraq.
 
   Different religious organisations, including Islamic Foundation observed the day through various programmes.
 
   The Shia community people brought out a small scale peaceful procession in the city's Andarkillah area to mark the day.
 
   Other programmes of the day included Qurankhwani, Milad Mahfil and fasting. Besides, most Muslim families in the port city offered Fateha to mark the day.
 
   Islamic Foundation organised a discussion on 'Importance of Holy Ashura in Preserving Peace and Order in Society' at city's Andarkillah Shahi Jame Mosque office.
 
   Chattogram City Corporation arranged lighting in all graveyards on the occasion.
 
   According to Islamic history, a disagreement among Muslims on the question of succession after the demise of Hazrat Ali, the fourth caliph, resulted in the Karbala tragedy.
 
  Moreover, Imam Hossain (RA) and his fellows were ambushed by the forces of Yazid on a journey towards Kufa.
 
   They were deprived of food and water, and many of them were put to death and eventually, Imam Hossain (RA) was brutally slaughtered.
