KHULNA, July 24, 2024 (BSS)-The industrial city Khulna has returned to its normal activities as people of all walks of life today throng at government, non-government offices including banks, insurances and financial organizations to mitigate their demands.
Besides, city dwellers also throng different brokerage houses, markets, shopping malls and other establishments.
The government had announced that all government, semi-government offices, autonomous bodies, banks and other financial organizations to open from 11.00 am to 3.00pm today.
However, the local administration extended the ongoing curfew in Khulna with relaxation from 8.00am to 6.00pm, Deputy Commissioner Khulna Khondokar Yasir Arefin confirmed to BSS.
“The law and order situation has become normal in the city. Curfew period may be extended with more hour relaxation tomorrow (Thursday)”, he said.
While visiting at different banks, government offices and court premises, this reporter found that people throng their after three days of general holiday from Sunday to Tuesday.
Aminul Islam, a small entrepreneur of city’s Rupsha area came to IFIC Bank at Sir Iqbal Road area for withdrawing money to mitigate his demand.
“I was in financial crisis during last three days due to holidays with curfew,” he said, adding that he faced many problems to run his small trade.
Meanwhile, different inter-district transportations left from Sonadanga bus terminal in Khulna city this morning.
While visiting Sonadanga bus terminal area Md Belal Hossain, a helper of Garai Paribahan of Khulna-Kushtia route, told BSS that “We passed very hard days during last six days.
We had no earning at that time as any transport left and arrived here.”
Contacted, Zakir Hossain Biplob, general secretary of Khulna Motor Sramik Union, told BSS, around 9000 workers became jobless and they passed very hard days during last six days.
He also said, over 500 bus-minibus owners also face financial loss as any transportation left and arrived from the bus terminal.
On the other hand, a total of 76 leaders and activists of BNP-Jamaat and Chhatra Shibir were arrested from the city and district during last 48 hours.
Talking to BSS, Commissioner of Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) Md Mozammel Haque told BSS that the police are being arrested criminals who are involved in anarchy in the name of anti-discrimination student movement.
Police would not arrest or harass any innocent people, he said, adding that the law and order situation is under control in Khulna city.
