Gaibandha BNP men call for protecting minorities' houses, properties

GAIBANDHA, Aug 12, 2024 (BSS) - BNP leaders called for guarding the houses, properties and business establishments of the minorities to maintain traditional communal harmony in the district.

"The minorities' people are also citizens of this country and they played a pivotal role in achieving Bangladesh’s independence participating in the liberation war in 1971. They are our close neighbors," they said.

The BNP men said this while they were addressing a gathering organized by the party's Saghata upazila unit on the premises of upazila sub registrar office at Bonarpara on Sunday.

"It is our foremost duty to give the minority people security so that they don't face any oppression and harassment in this changed situation caused by the fleeing after stepping down of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina amid a mass-upsurge led by the students", they said.

Convener of Upazila unit BNP Mohammad Ali presided over the function while its Member Secretary Selim Ahmed Tulip moderated it.

Several upazila and district BNP leaders urged all to be alert and careful so that none could conduct destructive activities here.
