RAJSHAHI, Aug 16, 2024 (BSS)- After 26 days of unscheduled closure, the intercity trains have been operating everywhere in the region since yesterday (Thursday) successfully.
Operations of 15 out of the total 54 intercity trains in the west zone were resumed on the initial day and the rest 39 are going to be resumed in phases.
Shah Sufi Nur Muhammad, Paksey Railway Divisional Manager of West Zone of Bangladesh Railway, said they normally operate 40 trains in Paksey Railway Division and 14 others in Lalmonirhat Division in the west zone covering Rajshahi, Rangpur and Khulna divisions.
Earlier on August 13, the zone started operating the services of mail, local and commuter trains and all sorts of necessary measures were taken to ensure security to the passengers in general.
He stated that the number of passengers of intercity trains on various routes has increased significantly in the last couple of years.
Considering the benefit of the passengers in general, he said 31 major stations have been brought under the modern computerized seat reservation and ticketing system. Some of those including Rajshahi have launched ticket selling and seat reservation through online systems.
Assistant Transport Officer Harun OrRashid said all sorts of need-based reparations were taken to operate the intercity trains successfully. The trains will run timely. Commuters are seen collecting train tickets from the counter and online. Railway authority has taken adequate measures to provide services to the passengers in general.
