RCC to resume civic services quickly: Administrator

RAJSHAHI, Aug 20, 2024 (BSS) - The newly appointed Administrator of the Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) Dr Dewan Muhammad Humayun Kabir has said that they will resume the civic services very quickly for betterment of the city dwellers.

"We will start the service-delivery activities, including waste management, birth-death registration and handing over the nationality certificate, as early as possible," he asserted this while addressing a press conference here today.

He said there is no problem of waste management as all the waste removal vehicles and vans remained intact. They are also hopeful about resuming other major civic services.

RCC hosted the press conference at its City Bhaban conference hall illustrating its overall activities to the media people at the changed situation.

Commissioner of Rajshahi division Dr Humayun Kabir, who assumed office of the RCC on Monday afternoon, told the journalists that resuming the vital works quickly is the most priority so that the city dwellers don't face troubles.

Simultaneously, short, medium and long term works will be implemented. "We have already fixed the work plan after consultation with officials concerned," he added.

He made a fervent call for returning back the essential goods, including computers and valuables, looted from the City Bhaban. Otherwise, legal action will be taken against those who will be found guilty in this regard, he warned.

Dr  Humayun Kabir also said they will not keep the officials and staff, who will be found engaged in corruption and irregularities as the city corporation is mandated to serve the people transparently.

Replying to a question he said necessary measures were taken to resume the services from the ward councillor offices.

He also said a committee has already been formed to assess the extent of losses in the City Bhaban and the committee has been asked to submit its report within the next seven days.
