MAGURA, Aug 26, 2024 (BSS)- Janmashtami, one of the major religious festivals of the Hindu community commemorating the birth of Lord Sri Krishna, was celebrated in the district across the country today, with due religious fervour and gaiety.
According to the Hindu mythology, Sri Krishna was born on the eighth day of dark fortnight in the Bangla month of Bhadra and he takes birth in ages in the world to safeguard the good and pious people from the hands of malevolent people by establishing truth, justice and beauty in the society.
On the occasion, a colorful rally was brought out from Nijnanduali Nitai Gopal Sevashram in the district town which paraded the important streets and ended at Satdoha Ashram this morning.
Later, a discussion meeting was held there.
Advocate Shri Nitai Roy Chowdhury, vice chairman of the Central Committee of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) addressed the function as the chief guest with Basudev Kumar Kundu, President of District Puja Celebration Parishad in the chair.
District BNP convener Ali Ahmed, its member secretary Akhtar Hossain, prominent social worker and district BNP member Manowar Hossain Khan, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami District unit Ameer Professor M B Baker, National Council member of Bangladesh Puja Celebration Parishad Advocate Pradyut Kumar Singh, Magura Press Club President Professor Saidur, were present as the special guests.
Principal of Sri Sri Jagannath Mandir of Magura New Bazar Sahapara Mr. Achyut Advaita Das Brahmachari, Vice President of District Puja Udjapan Parishad Mohan Lal Thakur, General Secretary Ujjal Kumar Dutta, District Hindu, Buddhist Christian Unity Council President Advocate Sanjit Kumar Biswas, its General Secretary Rajesh Chandra Gopal, among others, also spoke.
