CHATTOGRAM, Aug 26, 2024 (BSS) - Janmastami, the birth anniversary of Lord Sri Krishna and one of the major festivals of the Hindu community, was celebrated in the port city as elsewhere in the district with due religious fervour.
Sree Sree Janmashtami Udjapan Parishad Bangladesh organised a discussion in the city's JM Sen Hall.
Industrialist Sukumar Chowdhury, Central President of the Parishad, presided over the function while engineer Prabir Kumar Sen, Central General Secretary of the parishad, delivered the welcome speech.
General Secretary (GS) of Janmashtami Udjapon Parishad Engineer Probir Kumar Sen inaugurated the function while former GS of Janmashtami Udjapon Parishad Central Committee Tapan Kanti Das, Advocate Chandan Talukdar and Bimal Kanti Dey, Professor Swadesh Chakraborty, Leelaraj Gaurdas, Chinmoy Krishnadas, Gadadhar Das, Mukanda Bhaktidas, Ras Bihari Krishna Chandra Das, Ashish Kumar Bhattacharya and Shankar Sengupta, among others, attended the inaugural function as guests.
The organisation also provided Tk five lakh to the flood victims of Feni and Cumilla by minimising the expenses of the festival.
Highlighting the significance of Janmastami, the organisation brought out a colourful rally from JM Sen hall this morning. The rally paraded through the various city streets.
Various religious programs will be organized on JM Sen Hall premises till August 28.
The Chattogram Metropolitan Police and district police have taken up adequate security measures to ensure smooth celebration of the festival.
