Rajshahi people to get drinkable water supply by 2027

RAJSHAHI, Sept 11, 2024 (BSS) - People of Rajshahi city and its adjacent municipalities will get supply of drinkable water by 2027 as Rajshahi Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (RWASA) is implementing a project to this end.
 
The water treatment project is being implemented for ensuring water quality and meeting the water deficit.

Upon successful implementation of the project, 20 crore liters of purified water will be supplied to the targeted beneficiaries every day.
 
The drinkable water will be supplied to the people of Rajshahi city and its surrounding Naohata and Katakhali pourashava.

Managing Director of RWASA Zakir Hossain revealed this while addressing a follow-up advocacy meeting as focal person on the issue held at Hotel Warisan in the city today.

Wave Foundation: Together for Better Life, and Water Integrity Network (WIN): Fighting corruption in water worldwide, organized the meeting On behalf of 'Support for Enhancing Accountability in Water and Sanitation Sector to address risks of WASH' Project.

Deputy Director of Wave Foundation Kanij Fatema welcomed the participants, while Project Coordinator Lipi Amena gave an overview of the project along with its aims and objectives and implementation strategy.
 
She also presented findings of a research conducted on the city's water supply along with the extent of consumers' satisfaction.

RWASA Deputy Managing Director Alla Hafiz, Ward Councilor of Rajshahi City Corporation Sultana Ahmed Sagorika, Editor of Daily Sonar Desh Akbarul Hassan Millat and Jahangir Alam Khan from WIN also spoke.

Zakir Hossain told the meeting that they are giving utmost emphasis on Integrity management for ensuring sound public health everywhere in the city through ensuring good governance in their water supply system.

They are also putting in their best efforts towards ensuring transparency, accountability and participation of all stakeholders in the service delivery activities for betterment of the consumers in general.

Zakir Hossain added that the treatment plant is being installed at Sarangpur area adjacent to the Padma River under Godagari upazila about 26 kilometers off the Rajshahi city to clean and purify the river water.
Under the project, 53-kilometer main pipelines, 48-kilometer primary and secondary distribution pipelines, conventional water treatment plant, treated water transmission main and booster pump stations and an intake will be constructed.
