RAJSHAHI, Sept 22, 2024 (BSS) - Leaders of various youth organizations here today demanded protection of the existing rivers, including Padma river, from further degradation for the sake of protecting the ecological balance.

On behalf of their youth organization 'Youth Action for Social Change (YASC)', a four-member delegation submitted a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to the Commissioner of Rajshahi division at his office putting forward a ten-point demand.
 
YASC President Shamiul Alim Shaon told BSS that they also sent copies of the MoU to the concerned ministry and departments for necessary action.

He said their main demand is to bring back navigability in all the rivers and their tributaries through freeing those from pollution and encroachment.

Launching domestic and international river ways through bringing the rivers under capital dredging keeping their routes intact is another demand.
