JAMALPUR, Sept 24, 2024 (BSS) – A preparatory meeting for peaceful celebration of the upcoming Durga Puja, the greatest religious festival of Hindus in Bangladesh, was held at the conference room of Deputy Commissioner (DC) in the town this afternoon.
Deputy Commissioner Hasina Begum presided over the meeting while Additional Deputy Commissioner (Gen) Saiful Islam conducted it.
Upazila Nirbahi Officers (UNOs), representatives from Boarder Guard Bangladesh (BGB), Police, Ansar, National Security Intelligent (NSI), journalist and Presidents and Secretaries of Bangladesh Puja Utjapan Parishad in the District and Upazila levels attended the meeting.
The meeting urged all to remain vigil to protect communal harmony across the country for a greater national interest. It expressed the hope that the upcoming Durga Puja will be celebrated peacefully as communal harmony has been prevailing in the district.
The Deputy Commissioner informed the meeting that necessary measurers will be taken so that Hindu community could celebrate the Puja in a peaceful and festive manner. Four tiers security will be enforced including setting up close circuit camera at all Puja Mandaps to maintain law and order, the meeting revealed.
Superintendent of Police Syed Rafiqul Islam, Commanding Officer of 35 BGB Lt Col. Hasanur Rahman, Civil Surgeon of the district Dr Md Fazlul Haque, Deputy Director of Islamic Foundation Md Ali Zinnah, President of Bangladesh Puja Utjapan Parishad (Jamalpur District Unit) Prodip Kumar Som Ranu, its General Secretary Siddartha Sankar Roy, BSS District Correspondent Md Mukhlesur Rahman, journalists Hafiz Rayhan Sada and Zahangir Selim spoke on the occasion, among others.
According to District Puja Utjapan Parishad Sources, a total of 186 Durga Puja Mandaps will be erected in the district this year which will begin on October 8 through Shosti.
