THAKURGAON, Sept 24, 2024 (BSS) - At least three people were killed and nine others injured in lightning strikes in Sadar and Baliadangi upazilas of the district today.

The deceased are - Ariful Islam, 17, son of Dulal Uddin of Lauthuti village under Shukanpukuri union in Sadar upazila, Munir Islam, 28, son of Nazrul Islam and Ataur Rahman, 23, son of Mojibur Rahman of Kalibari village in Amjankhor union of Baliadangi upazila of the district. 

Ariful and Munir were hit by lightning strikes while they were taking bath in a pond with some of their friends at Lauthuti village of Sadar upazila. Both of them died on the spot, said Feroz Wahid, Officer-in-Charge of Thakurgaon Sadar Police Station.

On the other hand, Ataur died after being hit by lightning while he was working in the field, police said.

The injured, including children and women, are being treated in the hospital.

District BNP General Secretary Mirza Faisal Amin has instructed the local BNP leaders and workers to stand by the victims.

Deputy Commissioner of Thakurgaon Israt Farzana expressed her concern over the incidents and said the victims will be provided with necessary support.
