DINAJPUR, Sept 30, 2024 (BSS) - Two people were killed and three others injured when a covered van ploughed through several vans on the Dinajpur-Gobindaganj regional highway in Raniganj Bazar area under Ghoraghat upazila of the district today.

The deceased were Abdul Goffar, 68, son of late Afzal Hossain of Kumarpur Chatra village of Pirganj upazila of Rangpur district, and Anwar Hossain, 50, son of Omar Ali of Koch village of Birampur upazila of the district.

The accident occurred when a covered van ploughed through eight vans near in the Raniganj Bazar on the Dinajpur-Gobindaganj regional highway around 7 am as its driver lost control steering around 1:30 pm, leaving one dead on the spot and four others injured, officer-in-charge (OC) of Ghoraghat Police Station Nazmul Haque said.

Fire service members rescued them and admitted them to the upazila health complex.

Later, one of them succumbed to his injuries on the way to Rangpur Medical College Hospital.

Police arrested the covered van driver from the spot and legal action will be taken in this connection, the OC added.
