Media can change society: Rangpur Div Commissioner

RANGPUR, Oct 1, 2024 (BSS) – Acting Divisional Commissioner of Rangpur division Md. Azmal Hossain today said that the media could play the most helpful role in changing the society and the state. 
 
“For this reason, journalists must provide true and objective news,” he said, adding that the more it is written against corruption and irregularities, the powerful will be cornered more and abuse of power will reduce.  
 
He was addressing the closing ceremony of a three-day 'Basic Training in Journalism' program organized by Press Institute Bangladesh (PIB) at the District Social Services Office conference room here as the chief guest. 
 
Thirty-five journalists from all eight upazilas and Rangpur metropolis participated in the program moderated by PIB Trainer Mohammad Shah Alam.
 
Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education and ICT) Md. Rezaul Karim, Deputy Director of Rangpur District Department of Social Services Md. Abdul Matin, senior journalists Shalequzzaman Salek and Sarkar Mazharul Mannan also addressed.
 
The chief guest said everything does not change in a day. Efforts to change must continue. Journalists are called the mirror of the society. 
 
“I believe it is possible to bring change in society through news. That is why it is very important for the reporters to be responsible and they should maintain ethics and principles in journalism,” he said. 
 
The chief guest also handed over certificates to the participants. 
 
Assistant Professor of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism of Begum Rokeya University Mahmudul Haque, PIB Trainer Mohammad Shah Alam, Banglavision Senior News Editor Ruhul Amin Rushd and GTV Executive Producer Mohammad Shahabuddin conducted different sessions of the training program.
