Durga Puja to be held at 473 mandaps in Thakurgaon

THAKURGAON, Oct 3, 2024 (BSS) - Durga Puja, the biggest religious festival of the Bangalee Hindu community, will be celebrated at 473 mandaps in all five upazilas, including three Pourashavas, in the district this year.


The festival will begin on October 9 with due respect and religious fervor across the country and end on October 12 with immersion of the idols of goddess Durga and other deities.


Joint convener of Bangladesh Puja Celebration Committee, Thakurgaon district unit, Joy Mohant Alok told the journalists that this year a total of 473 mandaps were erected in the district. Of those, 217 are in Sadar upazila, 20 in  Haripur upazila, 119 in Pirganj upazila, 63 in Baliadangi upazila, and 54 in Ranisankail upazila.

Meanwhile, the idol artisans are spending busy time. They have completed the work of making idols in every mandap of the district. Now they are giving the finishing touch.


Manoranjan Singh, convener of Thakurgaon District Durga Puja Celebration Committee, said monitoring teams will work along with police, ansar and VDP members in all puja mandaps of the district.

Superintendent of Police Sheikh Zahidul Islam said stringent security measures have been taken for smooth holding of the puja in the district and law enforcement agencies will be in place to ensure smooth celebration.

Beside, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir gave important instructions to the leaders and activists in the recently held six public meetings in the district to ensure holding the Durga Puja in a completely festive atmosphere.

He also sat in a discussion meeting with the people of the Hindu community at the local Mirza Ruhul Amin Auditorium recently.
