Birth & death registration day observed in Khulna

KHULNA, Oct 6, 2024 (BSS)-Administrator of Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Md Helal Mahmud Sharif said the government has made compulsory birth and death registration for all citizens as part of establishing good governance.

Birth and death registration is fundamental to know about the actual population of the country and design the country’s development plans, he said at an orientation meeting marking the National Birth and Death Registration Day here today.

The day is being observed in the country this year with the theme “Birth and Death Registration will bring Good Governance in the Country.”

KCC health department organized the meeting at its conference room with Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of KCC Laskar Tazul Islam in the chair.

Sharif, who is also the Khulna Divisional Commissioner, said, birth registration is essential for a citizen for their national identify and ascertain the legacy and rights of their posterity.

Besides, birth registration is required in at least 28 areas including applying for passport, NID, marriage registration, admission at educational institutions, applying for job, land registration and opening of bank account.

It was also informed in the meeting that birth registration of 10, 09,049 citizens have been completed in 31 wards of the city.

Secretary of KCC Asif Rahman, chief health officer Dr Swapon Kumar Halder, executive magistrate Jannatul Afroz Swarna and chief engineer Moshiuzzaman Khan, were present.

Health officer Dr Sharif Shammiul Islam presented the key note paper in the meeting.
