Durga puja celebration begins in Rangpur tomorrow

RANGPUR, Oct 8, 2024 (BSS) - The Sanaton community will begin five-day celebrations of their greatest religious festival of Durga Puja with 'Bodhan' from tomorrow in the district amid due religious fervor and gaiety.
 
The Sanaton devotees will start thronging all puja mandaps erected across the district from the morning to have a glance at goddess Durga and seek her blessings for their welfare and well-being of the whole humanity.
 
The district, police and upazila administrations, law enforcement agencies and local units of Bangladesh Puja Udjapon Parishad (BPUP) have taken ample steps to ensure peaceful celebrations of Durga puja festival.
 
Local leaders of BPUP said the five-day celebrations will end on October 13 next with the 'Bijoya Dashami' parade and immersion of the idols of goddess Durga in water bodies.
 
The Deputy Commissioner, Superintendent of Police, Upazila Nirbahi Officers, politicians, leaders of socio-cultural organizations and BPUPs are visiting Puja mandaps and extending cooperation to the Sanaton community people.
 
"We have taken sufficient steps and security measures to ensure peaceful celebrations of the five-day Durga puja at all Puja mandaps," Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Rabiul Foysal told BSS this afternoon.
 
Superintendent of Police Mohammad Sharif Uddin said use of close circuit cameras has been ensured in every Puja mandap and the police force as well as the Puja celebration committees will be vigilant to ensure peaceful celebration of the festivity.
 
This time, Durga puja will be celebrated at 835 puja mandaps erected in the metropolis, three municipalities and eight upazilas across the district.
 
Adequate numbers of the police force, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-13 and Ansar-VDP will be deployed amid vigilance of patrolling army teams and close circuit cameras have been installed at all mandaps to ensure peaceful celebrations.
 
President of Rangpur district unit of BPUP Ram Jiban Kundu said the Sanaton community will begin celebrations of the Durga puja festivity amid huge enthusiasm at all puja mandaps erected in the district from tomorrow.
 
General Secretary of Rangpur city unit of BPUP Advocate Prashant Kumar Roy thanked the authorities concerned and law enforcement agencies for taking adequate steps to ensure peaceful celebrations of the Durga puja festival in the city.
 
Meanwhile, artisans are passing the busiest time at the last moments to give finishing touches to erected idols of goddess Durga with innovative artistic creativity and colors to make those more charming, attractive and beautiful in looks.
 
Talking to BSS at different Puja mandaps in Rangpur city today, Sanaton devotees Parboti Rani, Asrukona Roy, Dulal Chandra and Rameswar Barman expressed happiness over the security steps taken for peaceful celebration of Durga puja.
