RAJSHAHI, Oct 8, 2024 (BSS) - A tribunal here today convicted nine people and sentenced them to life-term imprisonment in the verdict of Altaf Hossain murder case in the district.

They were also fined Taka 50,000 each, in default, to suffer six months more behind the bar.

Judge of Rajshahi Divisional Speedy Trial Tribunal Muhammad Mohiduzzaman found the convicts guilty of the murder charge and pronounced the verdict before them in the jam-packed court.

The convicts were: Isahaque Ali, 65, Muhammad Hassan,52, Moni Khatun, 26, Mukta Khatun,32, Zahid Hassan, 22, Nahid Hassan, 25, Abul Hanat, 40, Abdul Halim, 28, and Serajul Islam Mian, 30. All of them are the residents of Kakonhat area under Godagari Upazila. 

The prosecution story, in brief, is that the accused beat their co-villager Altaf Hossain indiscriminately and injured him critically on May 3, 2023 as part of previous enmity.

Retired army personnel Altaf Hossain succumbed to his injuries at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital on the following day (May 6).   

Subsequently, a murder case was lodged with Godagari Police Station on behalf of the deceased family. Upon completion of investigation, police pressed charges accusing the nine people.
