CHATTOGRAM, Oct 8, 2024 (BSS) - Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP)) has taken a three-tier security arrangement to ensure smooth celebration of the upcoming Durga Puja, the largest religious festival of the Hindu community, beginning from tomorrow.
The security measures, aimed at celebrating the festival without fear and traditional enthusiasm, will be come into effect from tomorrow and will remain in force until immersion of the idols of goddess Durga, CMP sources said.
Leader of Chattogram District Puja Udjapan Parishad Shyamol Kumar Palit said over 2,452 puja mandaps, including 260 in the port city, have been erected this year.
Teraq Aziz, additional deputy commissioner of public relations, said the CMP would deploy police personnel in all the puja mandaps apart from setting up a control room to smoothly handle the overall situation during the Durga Puja, he added.
Each puja mandap will also have plainclothes policemen along with personnel from the Striking Reserve Force and the Bomb Disposal Unit, he added.
The intelligence agencies have been directed to intensify their round the clock vigilance in and around puja mandaps across the city, he added.
Besides, CMP has already set up nearly 120 closed circuit cameras at different strategic points to monitor the security measures arranged for the city dwellers.
He said they would engage 3,200 police personnel at 131 points and set up 32 check posts at different strategic places in the metropolis during the celebration.
All the entry points of the city, including Shah Amanat Bridge, City Gate and Oxygen areas, have been brought under tight security measures.
