TANGAIL, Oct 11, 2024 (BSS) – The driver and the helper of a truck were killed as their truck collided head-on with a covered van at Kalihati upazila of the district this morning.

The deceased was identified as Anwarul Islam, 30, a truck driver and son of M Azhar Ali, hailed from Maheshpur of Thakurgaon. However, the identity of the helper could not be known immediately.

Elenga Fire Service in-charge Ataur Rahman and Bangabandhu Bridge East Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Shahadat Hossain said that when the North Bengal-bound truck reached Shalla area around 5:30 in the morning, it collided head-on with a Dhaka-bound covered van. Three people were trapped inside both the cars.

Later, police and fire service personnel took them out of the vehicles. The truck driver and his assistant were killed on the spot. The driver of the covered van was rescued and sent to Tangail General Hospital.

The bodies of the deceased were handed over to the family members after completing necessary legal procedure.
