KHULNA, Oct 13, 2024 (BSS) - With the theme of 'the role of education in protecting and empowering youth for a disaster-free future,' Khulna district administration observed the 'International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction-2024' today in a befitting manner.

To mark the day, a discussion was held at the deputy commissioner (DC)'s office as DC Mohammad Saiful Islam addressed as the chief guest.

Chaired by Additional Deputy Commissioner (general) Bitan Kumar Mondal, the meeting was addressed, among others, by Additional Superintendent of Police Md Asif Iqbal, Assistant Director of Fire Service and Civil Defense Md Faruk Hossain Shikder, representative of Bangladesh Red Crescent Society Md Towfiqul Islam, Md Mamunur Rashid of Jagrata Jubo Sangha (JJS) and human rights activist Md Abdul Halim.

District Relief and Disaster Rehabilitation Officer Md Abdul Karim delivered the welcome speech.

Earlier, a procession was brought out in the city where people from all walks of life joined.

Besides, a drill was held on fire and earthquake rescue on Boyra PWD Secondary School premises.
