KHULNA, Oct 13, 2024 (BSS) - Durga Puja, the biggest religious festival of the Hindu community, ended today in the city and nine upazilas of the district through immersion of idols of the goddess Durga with due religious fervor and solemnity.
Hundreds of devotees thronged puja mandaps on the Bijoya Dashami to have last look at the goddess Durga and seek her blessings for the nation and mankind by putting 'sindur' (vermilion) and offering sweets.
A total of 926 puja mandaps were erected this year. The district administration on behalf of the government distributed around 462 tonnes of rice among the mandap authorities to assist them in the smooth celebration of the festival.
Besides, the authorities of Khulna City Corporation (KCC) distributed Taka 6.35 lakh among 71 puja mandaps in the city.
Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) took security measures so that people of the Hindu community could celebrate their festival peacefully.
Talking to BSS, general secretary of city unit Puja Udjapan Parishad Proshanto Kumar Kundu thanked authorities concerned for ensuring adequate security and uninterrupted power supply during the five-day celebration.
They expressed deep gratitude to the present interim government led by Chief Advisor Professor Muhammad Younus for assisting them in celebrating Durga Puja with due religious fervour, enthusiasm and festivity.
