Durga puja celebration ends in Rangpur peacefully


RANGPUR, Oct 14, 2024 (BSS) – The five-day celebration of Durga puja ended here on Sunday peacefully amid tight security measures and army vigilance through immersion of the idols in water bodies with due religious passion and dignity.
 
Hundreds of the Sanaton devotees, mostly females attired in colorful dresses, thronged puja mandaps to have last looks at goddess Durga seeking her blessings for the well-being of the nation, country, its people and humanity as whole.
 
They fed goddess Durga with sweets, put vermilion on her face and exchanged the same among themselves at the puja mandaps which amazingly wore festive looks across the district.
 
In Rangpur city, the district and police administrations and Rangpur Metropolitan Police (RpMP) extended assistance to the puja mandap authorities in carrying and immersing the idols of Devi Durga into the rivers, ponds and other water bodies.     
 
Leaders of Rangpur district and city units of BPUP along with the Sanaton devotees participated in the process of immersions of the idols in the water bodies.
 
Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Rabiul Foysal, Superintendent of Police Mohammad Sharif Uddin, leaders of the Sanaton community and BPUPs visited puja mandaps and extended full cooperation to the Sanaton community people.
 
“We had taken sufficient steps and security measures to ensure peaceful celebrations of the five-day Durga puja at all puja mandaps,” the Deputy Commissioner said.
 
 
RpMP Commissioner Md. Majid Ali said the Sanaton community peacefully celebrated the five-day Durga puja festival amid huge enthusiasm at all mandaps in the metropolis.
 
“We had taken adequate measures and use of close circuit cameras was ensured in every puja mandap and the police forces and the puja celebration committees remained vigilant to ensure peaceful celebration of the festivity,” he said.
 
General Secretary of Rangpur metropolitan unit of BPUP Advocate Prashant Kumar Roy thanked the local administrations, law enforcement agencies and Ansar-VDP for taking ample steps to ensure peaceful celebrations of the Durga puja in every puja mandap.
 
Earlier, the religious festival began on October 9 last through 'Bodhan' (enlightenment) and the Sanaton community completed the five-day celebrations through immersions of the idols on the 'Bijoya Dashami' Sunday.
