RANGPUR, Oct 14, 2024 (BSS) - Officials and experts at a discussion here today stressed the need for producing global standard quality products without affecting environment and ecosystems to attain the sustainable development goals (SDGs).
They viewed this at the discussion arranged in observance of the World Standards Day-2024 with the theme "Shared Vision for a Better World - Standards for SDGs" at the Deputy Commissioner's conference room.
The district administration and divisional office of Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institutions (BSTI) jointly organized the discussion to raise awareness about the quality and standards of products and services to attain the SDGs by 2030 next.
Acting Rangpur Divisional Commissioner (General) Md. Azmal Hossain attended the event as the chief guest with Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Rabiul Foysal in the chair.
Superintendent of Police (Traffic and Operation) at Rangpur Range DIG Office Mohammad Alamgir Hossain, President of Rangpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry Md. Akbar Ali, Vice-president of Rangpur Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industries Md. Atiq Ullah and President of Rangpur unit of Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB) Md. Abdur Rahman were present as special guests.
Deputy Director (Physical) and Divisional Office Head of BSTI Engineer Mubin-ul-Islam delivered a welcome speech and presented the keynote paper.
Engineer Mubin highlighted the significance of observing the day to value the need for standardization globally and sought cooperation of industrialists, traders and businessmen in bringing more dynamism in the BSTI activities.
The chief guest said production of quality products and maintaining the quality of the manufactured goods should be maintained to strengthen the export sector and economy to accelerate national development.
"There is no alternative to follow international standards to keep pace with the outside world. For this, production and supply of quality food should be ensured in the production establishments," he said.
He said adulterated food is not acceptable in any country and all the additives used in food products, including gelatin, must be verified to ensure that no forbidden or harmful substances are used.
Regarding market monitoring, he said officials of each organization must regularly inspect the market and verify the standards according to the BSTI's checklist.
The Deputy Commissioner highlighted the purpose of observing the day and correlation of production of quality products with climate change.
