THAKURGAON, Oct 16, 2024 (BSS) - Burir Badh, a small township of Thakurgaon, is being enchanted with group fishing as the water body is opened to all for fishing now like previous years before the advent of winter.
The township becomes a festival of life as the gate of Burir Badh of Akcha Union of Sadar Upazila was opened on Tuesday afternoon for three days.
People now enjoy fishing festival at the old dam of Sukh River located in Akcha and Chilarong area of the two unions of Sadar upazila.
Hundreds of people from nearby villages and towns come to Burir Badh for fishing as men, women and children also joins group fishing with nets, polo, khocha and lafizal.
Those who don't have fishing equipment go down into water to catch fish by hand.
Sources said during the dry season in 1982, the dam was constructed in the area between Akcha and Chilarong unions to cultivate crops.
Every year, Thakurgaon Fisheries Department releases fish fries in the impounded water. And after releasing the water of the dam at the beginning of winter, it is opened for fishing. This is how Burir Dam fishing festival is being held every year.
Fishermen come to Burir Badh with various fishing equipment including Fika net, Lafi net, Current net, Chatka net to catch fish.
