Flood situation improves in Netrakona

NETRAKONA Oct 17, 2024 (BSS) - The food situation continues improving gradually at five upazilas of the district with the recession of the floodwater.

All the major rivers, including Someswari, Kangso, Dano and Mogra of the district registered a sharp fall in their water-levels during the last 24 hours ending at 12 pm today, said sources at the district administration.  

The rivers are now flowing below danger points during the aforesaid period, said the sources.

The flood affected over 75,000 people living at Durgapur, Kalmakanda, Purbadhala, Barhatta and sadar upazilas and standing crops, including transplanted Aman paddy and vegetables, on 25,000 hectares of land went underwater during the flood.
 
Deputy Commissioner of Netrakona Bonani Biswas told BSS that the district and upazila administrations jointly conducted relief operations in the flood-hit areas to mitigate the sufferings of the flood-affected people.
