15,000 girls to get HPV vaccines in Jamalpur

JAMALPUR, Oct 23, 2024 (BSS) - A total of fifteen thousand juvenile girls will be given Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccines aimed at protecting them from being attacked with cervical cancer in the district.

According to the Health Department, 15,000 teenage girls aged between 10 and 14 years will be given the vaccines in the next 18 days starting from tomorrow in seven upazila of the district.

Jamalpur Sadar upazila health and family planning officer Dr Uttom Kumar Sarkar said aiming to prevent cervical cancer a dose of HPV vaccine will be given to the each girl free of cost.

The Health Department has fixed a target to provide vaccines to 1.26 lakh teenage girls in the district.
 
Civil Surgeon, Dr Mohammad Hazlul Haque said all preparations have been taken to make the vaccination programme a success.
