MANIKGANJ, Oct. 11, 2021 (BSS) - Around 73,600 meter nets and 646 kgs of hilsha were seized during seperate drives
conducted by the Department of Fisheries on different points of the Padma and Jamuna
river to protect the mother hilsha.
District Fisheries Officer Sayfur Rahman said a total of 97 special
drives and 22 mobile courts were conducted in different points of
Harirampur, Shibalaya and Daulatpur areas in the district so far, from
the beginning of the ban on catching hilsha fish.
DFO said a total of 646 kgs of hilsha were seized in the district and
73,600 meter of current net including seven fishing boats were
destroyed during the drives. Besides, Taka 91 thousand was realized as fine from the
fishermen for violating the government imposed rule.
Three fishermen were jailed for different jail term in the district, so far.
