RANGPUR, Nov 6, 2024 (BSS) - Journalists are the pillar of the country and news is the mirror of society as only journalists can call and write white as white and black as black.
"We can see and know the image of the country and society through journalists," said newly appointed Divisional Commissioner Shahidul Islam in a view exchange meeting with the journalists at his conference room here yesterday afternoon.
He said that Rangpur is known as the place of origin of different movements. The second independence came as a result of Shaheed Abu Sayeed's self-sacrifice and student-mass movement.
"I want to play a role in the development of Rangpur by using the spirit of the July revolution in the Shaheed Abu Sayeed's Bangladesh. Along with that, I want to serve the residents of Rangpur division as a servant of people," he said.
He said that he went to visit Abu Sayeed's grave in village Babanpur under Pirganj upazila of Rangpur soon after joining as Rangpur divisional commissioner.
He also expressed optimism about implementation of the Teesta Master Plan, development of the Shyamasundari Canal, relaunching of the closed sugar mills and budget allocation of Rangpur division and Rangpur City Corporation for the development of Rangpur division.
Additional Divisional Commissioner (Revenue) Md Azmal Hossain, Divisional Director of the Local Government Division Md Abu Jafar, Additional Divisional Commissioner (General) Md Asaduzzaman and other officials were present.
