RANGPUR, Nov 6, 2024 (BSS) - Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-13 on Tuesday night
detained here the main accused truck driver who killed a police constable by
recklessly driving his truck in Kuratali area under Khilkhet police station
of Dhaka district.
 
"Truck driver Ripon Mian, 22, son of late Nuruzzaman of village Ujit
Dhoronibari in Sadar upazila of Gaibandha was arrested from village Joydev
Kagojipara in Gangachara upazila of Rangpur," said a press release issued
here tonight.
 
Driver constable Raihan Sarkar and constable Liaqat Ali were seriously
injured when the truck hit the rear of a Bangladesh Police vehicle in
Kuratali area while the killer driver was driving recklessly from 300 feet on
the Kuratali road on October 26 last.
 
The police officer on duty instantly took the two injured police constables
to the emergency department of Kurmitola General Hospital where the doctor on
duty declared driver constable Raihan Sarkar dead at 1am.
 
Subsequently, the duty police officer himself filed a case against the
unidentified truck driver at Khilkhet police station in this connection.
 
Later in the investigation by the investigating officer of the case, the name
of Ripon Mian was found as the truck driver at that time.
 
In continuation of this, on the basis of specific secret information, a
raiding team of the Crime Prevention Specialised Company of RAB-13 conducted
a drive at Joydev Kagojipara village and arrested him at 8pm on Tuesday.
 
"The detained accused truck driver has been handed over to the concerned
police station for further legal action against him," the release added.
