RANGPUR, Nov 11, 2024 (BSS) - The anti-discrimination student movement held a rally today to protest against the discrimination due to the non-appointment of any adviser from Rangpur division in the interim government.
The rally was arranged in front of Press Club here. Student coordinators Imran Ahmed, Nahid Hasan Khandker, Yasir Arafat, Imtiaz Imti, Sajjad Hossain, Hamim Muntasir Ahon, Dr Jamil and Muhammad Rajimuzzaman Hriday addressed the rally.
They called upon the Chief Adviser to immediately remove all regional
discrimination, including the non-appointment of advisers from Rangpur
division.
Otherwise, they warned of a larger movement including the 'North Bengal
Blockade' program.
They demanded that at least 10 people, including former social service
secretary of Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) Akhtar Hossain, from North Bengal should be included to the interim government's advisory council.
The students' coordinators said the people of greater Rangpur and Rajshahi divisions will be forced to take to the streets if the discrimination against North Bengal stained with the blood of Shaheed Abu Sayeed is not stopped.
They said, after formation of the interim government, the Chief Adviser first came to Rangpur and promised to remove the regional disparities and
move Rangpur division forward, but the reality is far cry today.
