PIROJPUR, Nov 15, 2024 (BSS) - Police arrested a fugitive convict, who was sentenced to death for killing his second wife and infant daughter in Mathbaria upazila of the district in 2003, from Hatimora area under Guimara police station in Khagrachhari district today.

The arrested convict is Sirajul Haque alias Abdul Haque, 65, son of late Jabed Ali, a resident of Uttar Mithakali area of Mathbaria upazila of the district.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Mathbaria Police Station Abdullah Al Mamun said that acting on tip-off, a team of Khagrachhari police and with the help of information technology conducted a drive and arrested him from Hatimora area under Guimara police station in Khagrachhari district this morning.

According to documents of the case, Sirajul Haque alias Abdul Haque brutally murdered his second wife Nazma Begum and infant daughter Misti Akhter in 2003 and fled.

A case was filed in this connection.

In 2019, the Pirojpur District and Sessions Court found him guilty under Section 302 of the Penal Code and sentenced him to death and fined Tk 50,000. It also issued an arrest warrant against him.
