TANGAIL, Nov 19, 2024 (BSS) - A court here today sentenced two persons

including a woman to life-term imprisonment for killing a woman in Basail
upazila of the district in 2018.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Afroza Begum handed down the verdict
to Monowara Akhter, 36, and Uzzal Islam, 33, residents of Basail Purbapara
village in the upazila.

The court also fined each of them Taka 20,000, in default, to suffer four
months more in jail.

According to the prosecution, the convicts strangled the woman, namely Jharna
Rani Das, to death over a dispute over money and buried her inside a room of
Monowara's house at Basail Purbapara on October 28 in 2018.

Following the murder, Jharna's husband filed a case the next day with Basail
Thana accusing them. Upon completion of the investigation, police pressed the
charge-sheet on April 9 in 2019.

Testifying witnesses and evidence, the court gave the verdict in presence of
the accused.
