35,000 flood-affected farmers in Gaibandha get Boro seeds

GAIBANDHA, NOV 26, 2024 (BSS) - The government has taken a scheme to distribute seeds of Boro hybrid paddy among 35,000 farmers, who were severely affected by floods at all seven upazilas here.

Sources said Aman paddy on 68,000 hectares of land was damaged due to back-to-back floods, causing severe misery for farmers living in the district.

In order to recoup the losses caused by floods, the government has taken a plan to distribute seed of Boro hybrid paddy collected from Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation to the affected farmers of the district under the Agri Incentive Program.

Consequently, seed-distribution activity is going on in full swing.
After collecting the seeds, many farmers are preparing seedbeds to grow quality seedlings, which would be raised and then transplanted to the wet land to get the desired output.

Each of the farmers is preparing a small seed bed with 2 kg of seed to grow quality and healthy seedlings to cultivate a bigha of land this season.

Deputy Director of the DAE, Khorshed Alam Sarker, said seed distribution activity has almost ended.

Sub-assistant agriculture officers have been asked to provide farmers with advice on how to grow healthy seedlings for boosting the production of paddy, he added.
