MEHERPUR, Nov 28, 2024 (BSS) - A court here today sentenced a man to life term imprisonment for raping a minor girl in Mujibnagar upazila of the district in 2023.

Judge of district Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Touhidul Islam handed down the verdict to Taslem Uddin, 60, hailed from Bhaberpara village in the upazila.

The court also fined Taslem Uddin Taka 50,000, in default of which he will have to suffer six months jail.

According to the prosecution on October 22 in 2023, Taslem Uddin raped the minor girl at a banana garden at Bhaberpara village. Following the incident, the girl's mother filed a case with the tribunal in Meherpur.

Testifying witnesses and evidences, the court passed the order, said plaintiff advocate Rokeya.
