CHAPAINAWABGANJ, Dec 2, 2024 (BSS) - A court here on Sunday afternoon sentenced a man to life-term imprisonment in a drug case.
Chapainawabganj District and Sessions Judge Md. Mizanur Rahman announced the verdict in presence of the convict.
The court also fined convict Azad Ali alias Abul Kalam Azad, 63, son of Abdul Tofur Mistiri, a resident of Islampur Boro Indara Mor of the district town, Taka 5,000, in default, to suffer six months more in jail.
According to the prosecution, RAB forces in a drive arrested Azad with 1.91 kg heroin from Chowdhurytola area under Moharajpur union of Sadar upazila on 1st March, 2021.
Nayeb Subedar Md. Abu Taleb of RAB-5 filed a case under the Narcotics Control Act with Chapainawabganj Sadar Model Police Station on the same day.
Sub-inspector Sujon Khan, investigating officer in this case, submitted a charge sheet to the court on December 15, 2021, accusing two persons.
After hearing the witnesses the court handed down the punishment, the court sources said.
Another accused in the case Kamal Hossain was acquitted as the charges brought against him were not proven.
