RANGPUR, Dec 9, 2024 (BSS)- Begum Rokeya Day, marking the birth and death anniversary of Begum Rokeya, the pioneer of women renaissance in the subcontinent, was observed today in her birthplace Pairaband here in a befitting manner.
Programmes of the day were included- placing floral wreaths at Begum Rokeya Smritistambha, hoisting the national flag, discussion and inauguration of Rokeya Fair.
Milad mahfil, screening of documentary, blood donation and cultural programmes were also arranged on the day.
Begum Rokeya was born in village Pairaband of Rangpur on December 9, 1880 and died on the same day in 1932 in Kolkata.
Bangla Academy organized a discussion on the day at the Begum Rokeya Smriti Kendra at Pairaband.
Addressing the discussion Bangla Academy Director General (DG) Professor Dr Mohammad Azam urged women folks to be imbued with the ideals of Begum Rokeya.
The dream shown by Begum Rokeya should be reflected in the society, he said.
Sirajum Munira, a lecturer of Bengali department at Begum Rokeya University presented the keynote article while principal of Taraganj Government College Prof. AIM Musa and Prof. Motahar Hossain Sujan of Rangpur Government College were present as discussants.
Rangpur district administration also arranged a discussion on the day. Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Rabiul Faisal inaugurated the three-day programme organized on Begum Rokeya Day-2024.
