NARSINGDI, Dec 12, 2024 (BSS) - Narsingdi Freedom Day was observed here today with various programmes.
The district administration chalked out programmes marking the day including rally and discussion.
A colorful rally was brought out from Shilpakala Academy on Thursday around 11 am and it ended at the District Commissioner's office parading different roads areas of the district town.
The discussion meeting was held at the deputy commissioner conference room.
Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Rashed Hossain Chowdhury, Police Super Mohammad Abdul Hannan and brave freedom fighters addressed the discussion, among others.
The deputy commissioner described the freedom fighters as the greatest sons of the soil saying that Bangladesh emerged as an independent and sovereign country for the immense sacrifices of the valiant sons.
In 1971, the Pakistani army carried out a brutal massacre in various places in Narsingdi district. In the face of strong resistance from the freedom fighters, Narsingdi district was completely liberated from the enemy on December 12.
For nine months long, 116 brave sons of the district were martyred after participating in hundreds of skirmishes in various places in the district and falling victim to the brutality of Pakistani soldiers.
