CHATTOGRAM, Dec 13, 2024 (BSS)- The Martyred Intellectual Day-2024 will be observed tomorrow in the port city as well as different parts of the district paying tributes to martyred intellectuals who were killed by Pakistani occupation forces and their local henchmen at the fag end of country’s Independence in 1971.
Different political parties, socio-cultural and professional bodies have chalked out elaborate programms including placing of floral wreath at the memorials of martyred intellectuals at Pahartali Bodhyabhumi, discussion meeting and dowa mahfil to mark the day.
Besides, district administration, Chattogram City Corporation (CCC), Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP), freedom fighters, different educational institutions and professional organizations have also taken daylong programmes marking the day.
National flags will be hoisted half-mast at all public offices and important institutions while Bangladesh Television, Chattogram Centre and Bangladesh Betar, Chattogram will air special programmes. Local dailies will publish special articles highlighting the significance of the day.
Programmes taken by the Chattogram district administration includes discussion at Deputy Commissioner’s conference room while special grants will be distributed among different religious organizations.
Chattogram City Corporation will place wreath at Pahartali Bodhyobhumi in the morning tomorrow.
Chattogram city unit of BNP and its different front organizations will place wreaths at local Shaheed Minar in the morning and arrange a discussion meeting at Nasimon Bhaban party office.
Chattogram city, north and south district chapters of BNP, Bangladesh Jammat Islami will arrange various programmes including placing wreaths at Shaheed Minar, arrange discussion meetings, cultural functions and milad mahfils marking the day.
Chattogram Metropolitan Union of Journalists (CMUJ) will arrange a discussion meeting and the Interim Committee of Chattogram Press Club (CPC) will place wreaths at Shaheed Minar at one minute past of zero hours tonight.
On December 14, 1971, a numbers of country's leading Intellectuals including academics, doctors, engineers, journalists, artistes and teachers were dragged out of their homes by the Pakistani occupation forces and their local collaborators. The killers took them to unknown places blindfolded and killed them brutally aimed at making the country cripple intellectually.
