KHULNA, Dec 14, 2024 (BSS) - Martyred Intellectuals Day was observed in Khulna as elsewhere across the country in a befitting manner.
Marking the day, people from all walks of life paid rich tributes to the country’s golden sons and daughters, who were brutally murdered by the local collaborators of Pakistani occupation army at the fag end of the War of Liberation in 1971.
Leaders and activists of different socio-political and cultural organizations, government, non-government bodies and educational institutions placed wreaths at the Gollamary Martyred Memorial here at the early hours of today.
The day’s programme began with paying tributes by Khulna Freedom Fighters to the Gallamary Martyred Memorial at 12 past one minute.
Khulna City Corporation (KCC), Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Vice-Chancellors of Khulna University (KU), Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) and Khulna Press Club, among others, also paid homage to the great sons of the soil.
In observance of the Day, Khulna district administration organized a discussion at the Deputy Commissioner’s conference room with DC Mohammad Saiful Islam in the chair.
Khulna Divisional Commissioner Md Firoz Sarka took part in the discussion as the chief guest while Superintendent of Police T M Mossarraf Hossain as special guest.
Freedom Fighter Moniruzzaman Moni, student representative of anti-discrimination students’ movement in Khulna Saif Newaz, among others, also addressed on the occasion.
Khulna City and District Units of BNP, KU, KUET, KCC, Khulna Press Club, Metropolitan Union of Journalists (MUJ) and other political and socio-cultural organizations organized separate programmes marking the day.
