CHATTOGRAM, Dec 14, 2024 (BSS) - The Martyred Intellectual Day-2024 was observed in the port city as well as different parts of the district paying deep tributes to martyred intellectuals, who were killed by local collaborators of Pakistani occupation forces at the fag-end of country’s Independence in 1971.
Different socio-political, cultural and professional organizations and educational institutions organised various programmes marking the day.
The programmes included placing wreaths at Pahartali Boiddha Bhumi, organizing discussion meeting and Doa Mahfil on the mass graves.
Besides, district administration, Chattogram City Corporation (CCC), Chittagong Press Club, Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP), freedom fighters, different educational institutions and professional organizations have also arranged day-long programmes on this occasion.
National flags were hoisted half-mast at all public offices and important institutions while Bangladesh Television, Chattogram Centre and Bangladesh Betar, Chattogram Betar aired special programmes.
Besides, local dailies have published special articles highlighting the significance of the day.
Chattogram District Administration organized a discussion at Deputy Commissioner Conference room in the morning. Chattogram Divisional Commissioner Dr. Md. Ziauddin was the chief guest at the discussion chaired by Deputy Commissioner Farida Khanam.
Later, special grants were distributed among different religious organizations.
Chattogram city unit of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) placed wreaths at the killing ground (Boiddha Bhumi) in city's Pahartali in the morning and arranged a discussion at the same venue.
City Mayor Dr Shahdat Hossain, place wreath at Pahartali Boidda Bhumi in the morning on behalf of Chattogram City Corporation this morning.
Chattogram north and south district chapters of BNP, leaders of Anti Discrimination Student Movement, Jammat-e-Islami Bangladesh and Bijoy Mela Parisad arranged various programmes to mark the day.
Chattogram Metropolitan Union of Journalists (CMUJ) and Interim Committee of Chattogram Press Club (CPC) arranged separate discussions and placed wreaths at Pahartali Boiddha Bhumi this morning.
Besides, the administrations of Chattogram University (CU), Chattogram University of Engineering and Technology and University of Science and Technology Chattogram observed the day in a befitting manner.
