DHAKA, Dec 14, 2024 (BSS) - The Martyred Intellectuals Day was observed in
different districts on Saturday to commemorate those intellectuals who were
killed by Pakistani forces and their collaborators during the Liberation War.
In Gaibandha, the Martyred Intellectuals Day was observed in the district as
elsewhere in the country today amid paying tributes to the martyred
intellectuals with due solemnity and patriotic fervour.
Marking the day, the district administration, district police, Zilla
Parishad, Gaibandha Govt. College and socio-cultural organizations chalked
out the elaborate programs.
In the morning at 10 am, deputy commissioner (DC) Chowdhury Muazzam Ahmed
along with senior officials of the district and upazila administrations paid
rich tribute at the Shahid Memorial in front of Old DC office of the town
here through placing floral wreaths.
In Chandpur, people from all walks of life in the district today observed the
"Martyred Intellectuals' Day" paying rich tributes to the intellectuals who
were brutally killed by the Pakistani occupation forces and their local
collaborators at the fag-end of the country's Liberation War in 1971.
The day's programme was formally started in the morning with placing of
floral wreaths at the martyred freedom fighters memorial monument in front of
the by Deputy Commissioner office.
A discussion meeting was also held marking the day at Purnbazar Degree
College with Deputy Commissioner Md Mohsin Uddin in the chair.
In Thakurgaon, the Martyred Intellectuals Day was observed in the district
today amid paying tributes to the martyred intellectuals.
A discussion meeting was held at the conference room of the Deputy
Commissioner after paying tribute to the martyrs at the memorial plaque with
the names of the martyred freedom fighters in Kalibari area.
Deputy Commissioner Ishrat Farzana paid tribute to the martyred
intellectuals.
Then, superintendent of police Md Sheikh Zahidul Islam, District BNP general
secretary Mirza Faisal Amin, upazila executive officer Md Belayet Hossain and
freedom fighters of the district and upazila paid tributes.
In Chapainawabganj, the Martyred Intellectuals Day was observed in the
district today paying rich tribute to the martyred.
A discussion meeting was arranged at the conference room of the Deputy
Commissioner (DC) of Chapainawabganj in the afternoon. DC Md Abdus Samad
presided over the meeting.
Among others, Deputy Director of Local Government Debendra Nath Oraon, Chief
Executive Officer of Md Afaj Uddin, Civil Surgeon SM Mahmudur Rashid spoke on
the occasion.
After the discussion a doa mahfil praying for the salvation of their departed
souls was held.
Besides, special prayers were held at the mosques, mandirs and churches.
Different educational institutions also arranged discussion meetings to mark
the day.

The departmental heads of all government, autonomous and non government
offices including the valiant Freedom Fighters (FF) were attended the
discussion.
Deputy Commissioner Dr Manawar Hossein Malla presided over the discussion
while it was addressed among others by Civil Surgeon Dr Moksedul Momin,
Additional SP Mohammad Abdul Wares, Agricultural Extension DD Dr Robia Noor,
FF Advocate Abdul Based, FF Abul Hashem Master, Executive Engineer Dewan Gias
Mahmud, journalist Zahangir Alam Biswas and Shahanur Islam and student leader
Omar Faruque.
