RANGPUR, Dec 18, 2024 (BSS) - Officials at a post-rally discussion today stressed on producing skilled manpower and ensuring their safer migration to further increase remittance inflow aimed at strengthening the country’s economy.
They expressed the view at the event held at the Deputy Commissioner’s conference room in observance of the International Migrants Day and National Expatriates Day-2024.
The district administration and District Employment and Manpower Office, Islami Bank PLC and BRAC Migration Programme jointly organised the rally, discussion, distribution of crests and prizes among the highest remittance earners marking the day.
Divisional Commissioner Md Shahidul Islam attended the discussion as the chief guest with Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Rabiul Faisal in the chair.
Rangpur Technical Training Center Principal Sushanta Kumar Roy and Islami Bank PLC Rangpur Zonal Head Shafiar Rahman spoke as special guests,
District Employment and Manpower Office Assistant Director Malik Mohammad Taimur Gofran delivered a welcome speech.
He said the present interim government has taken various pragmatic steps to enhance skills and expertise of overseas jobseekers by imparting training and ensuring their safer migration, welfare, rights, dignity, honour and justice both at home and abroad.
“Appropriate long-term strategies, plans and programmes are being adopted to make the migration system easier and hassle-free using the latest information and communication technologies,” he added.
The speakers stressed on proper utilisation of the population by turning youths into skilled workforce before sending them abroad following appropriate rules and procedures to ensure their better wages, safety, security and dignity.
The chief guest said that remittances are one of the driving forces of a country’s economy. With the increase in remittances, the country’s per capita income and total GDP also increase.
“Expatriates and immigrants used to work hard and send remittances to the country. Remittances sent by expatriates and immigrants are enriching the country’s economy. There is no room for denying their contribution,” he added.
He said on the issues related to the interests of expatriates and migrants, the government has worked to make their remittance sending, travel, obtaining visas, etcetera easier and more seamless.
Later, the chief guest distributed awards and commemorative mementos to the highest remittance providers of the district.
