KHULNA, Dec 22, 2024 (BSS)- Speakers at a daylong workshop have urged the drivers and helpers of transport pool at Khulna University (KU) to abide by the traffic rules and regulations during performing their duties for the sake of protecting life and properties from road traffic accidents.

Drivers and helpers along with their associates play a pivotal role towards transporting KU people to and from its campus regularly. So, there is no way but to remain alert to all the moments of discharging duties.  

The Institutional Quality Assurance cell (IQAC) of KU organized the training workshop styled "Safe Driving and working morality for drivers and helper" at Lecture Theatre of its Urban and Rural Planning Discipline on Saturday. 

A total of 58 drivers and helpers of the transport pool joined the workshop and were given ideas on basic rules and motivation and ensuring a competitive environment at KU. 
 
Vice-chancellor (VC) Prof. Dr. Md. Rezaul Karim addressed the workshop as the chief guest while Pro-VC Dr. Md. Harunor Rashid Khan and Deputy Commissioner (Traffic) of Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) Safiqul Islam spoke as special guests with IQAC Director Prof Mustafizur Rahman in the chair.

Treasurer Prof. Dr. Md. Noor Un Nabi, IQAC Additional Director Dr. Md. Wasiul Islam, Transport Pool Director Dr. Md. Enamul Kabir and KMP Assistant Commissioner Md. Oliuzzaman were present, among others.

Stressing the need for strict enforcement of traffic rules to reduce road accidents, the VC said if the drivers drive their vehicles carefully the existing number of road accidents could be reduced to a greater extent. 

Massive public awareness; regular training for drivers and necessary infrastructure are the prime prerequisites for preventing road accidents, he mentioned.
 
There is no alternative to raising awareness among the public in general to prevent road accidents which is a matter of grave concern.
