RANGPUR, Dec 24, 2024 (BSS) - Participants at a workshop here today stressed on eliminating inequality to take development-deprived Rangpur region forward as the entire region is trapped in the net of development inequality.
The Rangpur Division Inequality Elimination Movement organised the workshop titled 'Multidimensional poverty of Rangpur division, victim of development inequality, infertility in industrialization, and what to do to eliminate budget inequality' at the NGO Bureau conference room today.
The keynote address was delivered by Professor Dr. Abdullah Al Mamun, Provost of Salimullah Hall, University of Dhaka and Executive Director of Pan Asia Pacific Research Institute, Japan.
Convener of the Rangpur Division Inequality Elimination Movement Mehedi Hasan Suman moderated the event participated by political leaders, journalists, teachers, students, people from various walks of life from all over Rangpur division.
The participants said that the people of agriculture-dependent Rangpur have progressed as much as they have through their own efforts and the autocratic Awami League regime has no credit for this.
Now is the time to move forward by breaking the inequality.
Some infrastructural developments have taken place in Rangpur division to implement the political agenda of the Awami League and its leaders have lined their pockets in the name of development.
They called upon everyone to unite now in this regard to break the inequality.
Taking part in the open d discussion, Vice-chancellor of Begum Rokeya University Professor Dr Md Showkat Ali said that the realization of demands will be easier with the coordinated efforts of everyone.
BNP's Organizing Secretary (Rangpur division) Principal Asadul Habib Dulu said that small steps should be taken in a continuous manner to create unity among everyone.
"It is time to eliminate discrimination in Rangpur division. We should move forward by creating a strong bond with the social leaders to realize the rights of the people of this backward region. Only then the inequality will be broken," he said.
Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md Majid Ali said that this arrangement is a big help for the Rangpur region.
He expressed his solidarity with the demands and expressed his desire to always be by their side.
Rangpur Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Rabiul Faisal said, "We should move forward by planning the development of Rangpur division. Government employees, people and professionals should be involved in realizing the demands."
