RANGPUR, Dec 26, 2024 (BSS) - Newly appointed Superintendent of Police (SP) of Rangpur Md Abu Saim has sought sincere cooperation from journalists in making the police active again with the people.
"We have instructions from the police headquarters that the police must be made to stand first. If the police are to stand, public involvement will be required. We have started working towards that goal. Journalists have an important role in that regard," he said.
The newly appointed SP said this during an exchange of views with local journalists at his conference room of the district police office in the city on Thursday afternoon.
In the event, local journalists presented different issues of the law and order situation to the SP. The issue of drugs also came up in the discussion.
The SP said, "We do not want to be used the way the police were used before. The police are working on reforms for this purpose. All of you know who used us."
"We expect from the journalists that the correct information will be presented. We want to be the people's police to serve the people," he said.
The SP said he will sit on the cases that were filed in July and August and make arrangements to quickly bring the accused under the law.
He made the Superintendent of Police's position against drugs clear. For this, the joint efforts of all, including journalists, information and suggestions are needed.
Later, he sought special cooperation from media workers to work on various issues including controlling the overall law and order situation, drugs and crimes.
Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration and Finance) Md Tariqul Islam (promoted to the post of SP), Additional Superintendent of Police (DSB), Zaynal Abedin and other police officers were present.
