KURIGRAM, Dec 29, 2024 (BSS) - An elderly woman was burnt to death in a fire as she was confined in a house alone at Ulipur upazila here early today.

The deceased was identified as Sahera Bewa, 85, wife of late Kaiser Ali of the Madyam Bazra area of the Bazra union under the upazila.

The fire broke out at 12:00 am, said Officer in Charge (OC) of Ulipur police station Zillur Rahman.

Local people said the victim was a paralysis patient unable to walk normally, was living with her elder son, Mokhlesar Rahman a three-wheeler driver alias Mongla, in a house.

The woman died in a fire supposed to be originated from an electric short circuit in the empty house as other family members went outside to attend a Waz Mahfil keeping her alone.

Ulipur Fire Service Station In-Charge Abbas Ali said," On information we rushed to the spot, bought the flame under control, and later we recovered the dead body of the elderly woman."
